| Jon fired up
for return to Nürburgring |
| 22 July 2008 Jon returns to racing action thi scoming weekend in the sixth round of the Formula 3 Euroseries at the Nürburgring in Germany, determined to make a return visit to the podium. As reported before the 19 year-old Formula 3 rookie racer has already mounted the podium this season, following on from his superb third place in only his second year in cars. ![]() The Leeds based Multiflight-supported teenager now intends to go even better, as he makes a realistic bid to visit the top step at the Nürburgring. In his last race the nominated BRDC Superstar failed to finish, but prior to that he had still shown a rapid pace in qualifying, and fully expects this to continue as he looks forward to a confident return to the track for the two races this weekend. “I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the track this weekend. I love the circuit; it has a good combination of fast corners and a flowing chicane. It will be a real challenge. I’ve raced here before but only on the short circuit, where the others will no doubt have more track knowledge. However, after the pace we’ve had over the last few races, I’m still expecting to be up there with them from the first session. The quality of the field is very high and although the circuit is reasonably OK for slipstreaming and overtaking, the closeness of the competition will mean it’s critical to get a good qualifying position. “And that will be exactly my aim, to get a good grid slot for race one. I overdrove in Zandvoort last time out," he explained with disarming honesty, "so this weekend I’ll be concentrating on not trying too hard and just let the times come. I know the car is quick and I know I am too. But I’ve learnt from my mistake in Zandvoort and will be approaching this weekend completely different. I intend to come home with a load of points from the two races and I definitely feel another podium finish is on the cards. So I plan to put it all together in qualifying and get up onto the first two rows where I belong.” Jon will be on track for free practice on Thursday, prior to the critical 30-minute qualifying on Friday. Race one will take place on Saturday, with the second race again shown live on Motors TV, which is due to take place on Sunday morning. |
