Jon signs with ASM

17th November 2007

“We are very, very pleased to have signed the contract this weekend with ASM, to compete in next year’s Euro Formula 3 Championship. They are one of the leading teams in Europe and we just cannot wait now for the new season to start. And we really must thank David Hayle of Hitech for his help and support in furthering Jon’s career. It has been very much appreciated.”

So after just one year in Euro Formula Renault, Jon’s astonishing success, clearly demonstrated during that end of season race-winning flourish, bore fruit to seal his graduation into arguably the best Formula 3 race series on the calendar.

Team boss Frederick Vasseur completed the new contract with Lancaster Snr in Macau over the weekend, shortly after Jon had conducted his first test for the crack ASM team around the Le Mans Bugatti circuit.

With Jon in training for 2008, father Charles was just as excited as his son. “That test went very well for us,” Lancaster Snr commented. Jon was able to set some good times, but it was a bad day weather-wise, when it started off freezing at zero degrees. The rest of the day only rose to 6 deg. C, but then it started raining… Everyone pulled together well and Jon really enjoyed himself with the team.”

Jon’s next test with ASM is now scheduled for December where it is planned to run the new F3 car for the first time.

The new Euro F3 calendar for 2008 has now been released, with one race in the UK, although it is believed to be on the Indy circuit, and sadly not on the full GP circuit, with Hockenheim in Germany both starting and finishing the season.

Of greater importance perhaps is that 18 of the 20 races will be run within the German DTM touring car series, which will undoubtedly help to raise the young ASM British stars profile in 2008, as he races F3 for the first time in front of 80,000+ spectators.

More details of Jon’s December test with ASM will follow soon.
