Team AKA worked wonders after the pre-Friday
test, after Jon had an unfortunate ‘off’ during the day, as he explored the
limits of his new Formula Renault single-seater.

Jon was making his debut for the Formula Renault Team AKA outfit, on the
back of his stunning race win at Silverstone during his maiden Formula Ford
outing.
“We had to tank tape most of the car to get him out in the final minutes of
qualifying”, Lancaster Snr said, “so even though he had lost a lot of track
time with the shunt, we were very pleased when he managed to qualify in 11th
place for both races”.
With two races of the Winter Series ahead, the programme allowed for one
race on the Saturday and the second on Sunday. Jon made a good start and was
making solid progress in race one, fighting his way up to 7th place, when
one of his opponents failed to see him, when he tried to out-brake him going
into Druids. The contact from this incident resulted in a spin for Jon,
including a bent wishbone on his front suspension, although at least Jon was
able to re-start and finish the race.

Again on grid 11 for race two on Sunday Jon was ready for business. “He made
a good start”, Lancaster Snr commented, “and made forward progress, reaching
a creditable 8th position. He was also the first of the Team AKA cars home
and we were really pleased with the result”. Bearing in mind that the car
had the wrong rear springs for the conditions, which gave Jon massive
over-steer, the young racer from Leeds left the Kent circuit with his sights
set firmly on the next two races at Croft, near Darlington this coming
Saturday.
In the meantime Jon is under-going an intensive training course in Oslo,
Norway, ready for his return to the frenetic Formula Renault action in a few
days time, when Team AKA take to the Croft circuit for the next track test
on Thursday. |
